CMS, Shop updates and support
f you have a website with a login panel, it uses a CMS (a content management system). If you have an online shop it runs from a system in the background running the order processing.
There are 2 typical CMS’s we use here at Noise Media, but if your website was built for you in the last 5-8 years it is likely to be using WordPress if you have a blog, or maybe a product catalogue. If your website is older than that, or you requested a different CMS, it may be running one of 2 different systems used depending on your requirements and preferences at the time.
It is best to keep these up to date and absolutely critical for shops storing order data.
We can work with you to manage updates as per your specific needs. With shops we recommend a programme of monthly maintenance which allows for time each month to log in, carry out any specific update functions and alert clients to any specific things that may be of note, for example picking up on any relevant payment issues that could be caught early.
For general websites it is very dependant on the client how often a CMS is updated. Smaller businesses where critical data is not being stored or processed on their website, may wait until updates are absolutely necessary.
Website owners who want more resilience should look to have a planned update programme and our VIP service offers an active update service for CMS users. It is just a way of keeping everything from the system used, to the codebase, on top form and current, it also means that your site is never far from being up to date which makes layout adjustments easier. It’s not just what a site looks like, but also the gears working in the background to make it work that are important.
If your site is a bit older and only had minor tweaks in recent years or has ‘rested’ for maybe a bit too long, ask us whether you would benefit from an update boost to both the cms if you use one and your website layout.
